Now I guess it’s time to start spreading some words. Who knows how this will go or what direction I’ll take on this. I think today I’ll speak a little on the side of competition. I’ve been competing since 1993 where I won the middleweight & overall at the Gainesville Championships. That city is where the University of Florida is. I was attending the university working on my degree and decided to finally enter my first show. What a rush winning the whole show my first time out. I weighed 168 lbs. then. Fast forward today and I’ve reached the National level and man what a difficult level to pass. You see in the magazines certain guys who enter and seem to win within their first 3-5 years. From my experience, and I’ve been at that level since 1999, not too many make it through that fast or for that matter, make it through at all. There everyone is a freak.
After the 2003 Nationals where I placed 2nd, I decided to walk away from the sport feeling content with my success in the sport. Here was the problem, once you get bodybuilding in your blood, it’s real hard to get it out. There is always this sense of trying to do better. It can make it difficult to enjoy moments of progress in this game, because there is always room for improvement. Even Mr. Olympia himself needs to keep improving, so you know I’m always picking myself apart and working harder to make those improvement.
I think one of my problems these last few years has been stagnation within my training. I trained hard, but not all out. That is where this year has changed. My training is much more intense and all out. Always setting small goals within each workout and challenging myself. The goal is to bring a completely different look to the Nationals this year in Atlanta and let the judges know that I’m ready for the next level.
Well, I’ll keep you updated on all the happenings in my life and let’s see how this blogging goes. All for now. Train hard, train smart & always go through life with a positive attitude and smile on your face. This world really need it.
